Participants include: Jonathan Rodgers, General Manager, WBBM-TV Chicago; Joseph Angotti, Vice-President, NBC News; Elizabeth Ann Clough, William Benton Fellow; David Webster, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace; Marvin Zonis, University of Chicago; Jonathan Sanders, Columbia University; Jay Levine, WLS-TV Chicago; Alejandro Benes, William Benton Fellow; and Ira Miskin, Turner Broadcasting System. Host John Callaway guides the discussion on issues that include; whether local coverage of foreign news infringes on national network coverage; whether local stations should replace networks; whether local reporters are qualified to cover these stories; and whether local stations have the resources needed. Examples of such coverage are provided with excerpts of reporting by Bill Kurtis, WBBM-TV Chicago, on American children in Vietnam, and WMAQ-TV Chicago reporter Paul Hogan's interview of a Chicago marine in Lebanon. <60mn>
