This NBC news broadcast from New York begins with a reading of the headlines of the news stories coming up in the newscast. Next, announcer [Eleanor Engel] does a commercial for Alka Seltzer. The newscast consists of the following stories: The Soviet Premier, Nikolai Bulganin, has announced that the Soviet Union rejected the American call for full proof inspections of disarmament. The United States proposed during the July 1955 Geneva summit meeting between the U.S., U.S.S.R., Britain and France, that the U.S. and U.S.S.R. exchange details about their respective military strengths. The U.S. Atomic Energy Commission reported that the U.S.S.R. had resumed tests of atomic weapons. White House correspondent Ray Scherer reports on a press conference by U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower to respond to the Soviet rejection. Pauline Frederick reports from the United Nations on that organization's position on nuclear weapons tests. Next is a report by Fran Uhlis of KGBX, Springfield, Missouri, on a crash of an American Airlines airplane 90 miles northeast of Springfield. Eleven American Korean war pilots released by Communist China on August 1, 1955 are to arrive in Tokyo. Chinese and American envoys are meeting in Geneva. There is a commercial for Alka Seltzer read by Bob Murphy. The final item is a report by Austin [Kiplinger] on the hiring of 12 women taxi drivers by a Chicago company, because men have been taking easily available factory jobs. The recording ends with a commercial for One-A-Day brand multiple vitamins. <15mn>
