Lefolii notes current Canadian and U.S. inquiries into the cost of prescription drugs and compares the cost of tetracyclin in generic and brand name forms. In an interview by Lefolii, Dr. Alan S. Davidson, who appeared before a Parliamentary committee on the matter, suggests high consumer costs are the result of: industrial competition; advertising costs; and the tendency of doctors to over-prescribe. René Lévesque interviews Dr. William Wigle, President of the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association of Canada. They discuss drug company expenditures and profits; research advertising; and variations in prices. Samples of typical drug ads indicate that the target is largely women and the ads appeal to emotion rather than to scientific judgement. <30mn>Language:EnglishOriginal number:22355Notes:Detailed holdings information: -
