Radio broadcast by the CBC Special Events department of Armistice Day ceremonies, as follows: a commentator is speaking from Parliament Hill, Ottawa. The Band of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is playing in the background. The commentator describes the crowds of veterans, and the cenotaph. Governor General Lord Tweedsmuir and Lady Tweedsmuir arrive and are met by the Prime Minister, Mackenzie King, and Mr. Walter Woods, Chairman of the Remembrance Day Committee. They lay a wreath. The commentator outlines the ceremony which is to follow. He estimates that there are 3,000 troops there, the largest number ever to turn out for this service. Lady Tweedsmuir accompanied by Walter Woods, Sir Arthur Shuldham Redfern, ladies-in-waiting, and an aide, Col. Henry Willis-O'Connor, enter and take their places. Lord Tweedsmuir, the Prime Minister and Government House Party take their places. The ceremony begins. The choir is conducted by Cyril Richwood. O Canada is sung; a message of remembrance is read, first in English and then in French, by Brigadier W.W. Foster and Maurice Olivier. Guns are fired, followed by two minutes' silence. Parts of the service are omitted at this point. Another commentator describes what seems to be the last of the laying of wreaths. 'The King' is played by the RCMP Band marking the end of the service. The carillon in Peace Tower plays. Lord and Lady Tweedsmuir and the Prime Minister go into the Parliament Buildings. Others lay wreaths. At this point the broadcast returns to the studios. Jean Dean plays solemn piano music a sonata of Beethoven, and 'Cathedral at Twilight', by Bernard Magnus. <30mn>
