Interviews with key figures in the Toronto education system and immigrant students reveal problems created by inadequate facilities. A Toronto Board of Education research director, an Osler Senior Public School vice-principal, and a special assignments teacher describe their programs. Students who have left school early cite difficulties with the English language as the principal reason. The unique approach of Main Street School (Toronto), devoted exclusively to teaching immigrants, is described by the principal. Deane claims that, with the exception of Main Street School, very little is being done in Ontario to help immigrant children prepare for the work environment. <30mn>Subjects:DISCRIMINATION IN EDUCATION~EDUCATION~EDUCATION & STATE~EDUCATIONAL INNOVATIONS~EDUCATIONAL PLANNING~INTERCULTURAL EDUCATION~LANGUAGE STUDY & TEACHING~ONTARIO~MAIN STREET SCHOOL~DEANE, PHILIP Language:EnglishDetailed holdings information: -
