Description:

Peter Elkington hosts the first of three specials on the Olympic Games. TORCH TO MEXICO is a colour portrait of the host country as it prepares for the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City. Film presents contrasting views of ancient Mexico with its primitive agriculture and historic pyramids set beside the teeming modern city, home of a heterogeneous blend of Indian and Hispanic peoples. Noteworthy footage includes: the Olympic facilities, focusing on the stunning "Sports Palace" resort city of Acapulco, site of the sailing events; internationally renowned Museum of Anthropology, showcase of Aztec and Mayan heritage; and nearby market towns with bullfights, fiestas & silver markets. Interviews with athletic coaches on Mexico's excellent sport facilities and the development of Mexico's olympic athletes. <90mn : 100-1516>
