TV New ZealandDescription:Program about U.S. agriculture. In Minnesota where crop prices are low and land values are high, stable family farms are abandoned to bankruptcy. Social problems: stress-related illnesses, and suicides are indicators that once profitable and plentiful operations are out of control. In one example, a farmer is paid by the state to store her own grain - part of her subsidy comes from her own food crop. In California, mega-farms depend increasingly on chemicals for increased productivity. Their efficiency is debatable. Farming operations have expanded but at the expense of the small, efficient farmer.Language:EnglishDetailed holdings information: -
