Douglas D. Rothacker (producer)Country of production:usSponsor:The International Nickel Company, Inc.Distributor name:The International Nickel Company, Inc.Description:This film explains the refining and milling of nickel and nickel alloys at the world's largest rolling mill, the Inco plant at Huntington, West Virginia. Footage shows oxide sinter arriving from Canada, being crushed, ground, and roasted in one or two of three furnaces - the high-frequency induction furnace, the electric arc furnace, and the gas-fired open hearth reverberatory furnace. The slag and metal are drawn off separately and the metal is cast into ingots, re-melted, re-cast, and then sent to the hammer shop where it is forged, cut, and stamped. In the machine shop it is milled into wire, sheets, and coin strip by hot rolling. Footage also shows the production of rods and tubes in a reducing machine which stretches the nickel out to the required length. The opening sequence includes shots of the community's flood wall and shots of the flooded valley before the wall was built. <39mn>Language:EnglishNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
