La série comprend quatre journaux manuscrits sur la première année de Paul Szabo en tant que député (1993-1994) et cinq journaux manuscrits plus petits allant du 28 novembre 2005 au 31 août 2007 et du 3 mai 2008 au 26 mars 2011. Le texte, en écriture cursive, est néanmoins lisible.

Les quatre premiers journaux (19 cm x 24 cm) décrivent les expériences de Paul Szabo pendant sa première année à titre de député. Les entrées y sont plus longues que dans les journaux ultérieurs. Le nouvel élu donne ses premières impressions sur de nombreux aspects de son travail, par exemple : sa victoire à l'élection de 1993; le processus et le matériel d'orientation à la Chambre des communes; l'aménagement de son bureau et l'embauche du personnel; les interactions quotidiennes et les réunions avec ses collègues; et la charge de travail. Ces documents montrent à quoi ressemble la vie d'un nouveau député.
Les journaux de la deuxième série sont moins volumineux (13 cm x 18 cm). Ils couvrent la période du 28 novembre 2005 au 31 août 2007 et du 3 mai 2008 au 26 mars 2011. On apprend au début du troisième cahier (du 3 mai 2008 au 12 octobre 2009) que le journal du 31 août 2007 au 3 mai 2008 a malheureusement été perdu ou volé. Les entrées, généralement plus courtes, demeurent néanmoins régulières. Les sujets abordés comprennent la défaite des libéraux à l'élection fédérale de 2006, la démission du premier ministre Paul Martin, la course à la chefferie libérale en 2006, l'emprisonnement de Huseyincan Celil en Chine, les passages de Stéphane Dion et de Michael Ignatieff à la tête du Parti libéral ainsi que les divers voyages de Paul Szabo à l'étranger.
La plupart des entrées demeurent de nature générale, bien que quelques-unes portent sur le Comité de l'accès à l'information, de la protection des renseignements personnels et de l'éthique, par exemple sur la nomination de Paul Szabo au poste de président. Les journaux donnent aussi de l'information sur la vie personnelle et la personnalité de Paul Szabo : ce dernier assiste au petit déjeuner-prière tous les mercredis sur la Colline du Parlement; il se rend à l'église et passe du temps en famille chaque Dimanche, entre autres.
