Television documentary film which takes a look at the role of public relations people in North American society and the techniques they employ to advertise and sell their products. Sequences include: a woman dancing on records to promote their durability at a record company sponsored party; women attending a charm school; Bell Telephone Company sales representatives at a training session to sell phones; and Nellie McLean promoting retail space for her client, the Place Ville Marie office complex in Montreal. Reverend Richard Gilbert, radio and television director of the United Presbyterian Church in New York City, discusses advertising techniques to promote church services with excerpts of radio commercials designed to encourage attendance. Journalists Jack Webster and Frank Duckworth comment on the influence of publicity handouts on news content. Publicist Joe Woolander(?) greets his client, actress Jane Fonda, at the airport where she poses for photographs and later answers questions about the importance of publicity. Members of a ladies auxiliary watch a film and attend a publicity briefing at the North American Air Defense headquarters in Colorado Springs and comment afterwards on the importance of defence spending. Toronto publicist Bob Gray talks about various Canadian promotion campaigns and Earnest Little, a publicist for Texaco Canada comments on the benefits for his company sponsored party; women attending a charm school; Bell Telephone Company.
