Series consists of records created or assembled by the staff of the Office of the Prime Minister (PMO) - Issues Management unit (IM) between 2005 and 2015. According to an internal training document drafted in 2009, the IM unit was tasked with "controlling the message coming into and out of the PMO." Staff in this unit served the Prime Minister, Cabinet, and Caucus by coordinating the government's messages; by preparing members and ministers for daily Question Period; by answering questions likely to be put to ministers and the Prime Minister; and by monitoring media outlets to respond to key issues and criticisms facing the government.

Series includes working files belonging to Erica Furtado, Executive Assistant to the Director of Issues Management in 2013; files relating to IM office administration; staff working copies of reference and planning documents produced in anticipation of Oral Questions (informally Question Period or QP) in the House of Commons; and various communications information products addressing daily and emerging issues that were disseminated to Conservative Party caucus members, caucus staff and affiliated stakeholders.

Series is arranged into four (4) sub-series: Executive Assistant to the Director of Issues Management; Interns research; Question period preparation; and Issues monitoring.

Arrangement note:

Records were originally part of the Office of the Prime Minister (PMO) shared network drive. Sometimes referred to as the S-Drive or PMO-Commons, the PMO shared network drive was divided in two parts to maintain Government of Canada security requirements for storing protected and classified material. These two parts were known as the Protected B Network (BNet) for files rated Protected B and lower, and the Secure Network (CabNet) for classified (e.g. Secret) files. PMO employees had access to both networks, however each PMO unit applied access restrictions to their respective folders. PMO units maintained records in both the BNet and CabNet environments. During archival processing, Issues Management unit records from these two environments were arranged and described together in this series.
