Dodge, William, 1911-1986 : William Dodge (1911 1986) est né et a grandi à Verdun, au Québec. En 1927, il commence à travailler pour la Compagnie des chemins de fer nationaux du Canada. Il rejoint la Fraternité canadienne des employés des chemins de fer en 1930. Après avoir servi dans l'Artillerie royale canadienne pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il étudie l'économie à l'Université Sir George Williams et obtient son baccalauréat ès arts en 1949. Il commence à travailler pour le comité travailliste québécois de la Fédération du Commonwealth coopératif en 1948 et devient représentant à temps plein de la Fraternité en 1949.
M. Dodge effectue plusieurs mandats comme vice-président au Conseil de la main-d'oeuvre de Montréal et siège au conseil exécutif de la Fédération des travailleurs du Québec (1957-1958). Membre actif de la Fédération du Commonwealth coopératif, il se présente comme candidat dans plusieurs circonscriptions pour le parti et siège au comité exécutif national. En 1958, il est élu vice-président directeur du Congrès du travail du Canada (CTC). Il conserve ce poste jusqu'à ce qu'il soit élu secrétaire-trésorier en 1968.
En tant que haut placé au CTC, M. Dodge intervient dans de nombreux enjeux nationaux concernant les relations de travail, notamment la Commission Norris (Commission d'enquête industrielle sur la désorganisation de la navigation sur les Grands Lacs et dans le réseau du Saint-Laurent et des canaux fluviaux) et lors de la mise sous tutelle des syndicats des transports maritimes. Il est le créateur du comité d'organisation des cols blancs du CTC, dont il assure la supervision pendant environ cinq ans. Au congrès de 1974 du CTC, M. Dodge se présente comme candidat à la présidence, mais le conseil exécutif, avec une petite majorité, appuie la candidature de Joe Morris.
Après avoir pris sa retraite de la direction du CTC, M. Dodge devient ombudsman (1975-1983) et représentant syndical au sein des conseils d'arbitrage. Il s'investit également dans des organismes de consultation et de recherche sur les politiques tels que l'institut de recherche C.D. Howe et le Conference Board du Canada. Il continue de travailler avec ces organismes après avoir quitté la direction du CTC.
M. Dodge est membre du Comité ontarien des affaires universitaires de 1967 à 1974. Après sa retraite, il siège aux conseils d'administration d'Ontario Hydro (1974-1981) et de la Banque du Canada (1975-1981), ainsi qu'à ceux des Musées nationaux du Canada et de Jeunesse Canada Monde. Il est fait Officier de l'Ordre du Canada en 1974. M. Dodge est décédé à Ottawa en 1986.
