CPAC's Leaders' Tour follows the party Leaders as they campaign across Canada leading up to the federal election on January 23, 2006. This episode begins with host Peter Van Dusen summarizing the day's campaign activities. In Guelph, Conservative Party Leader Stephen Harper promises to double the amount of pension money that can be sheltered from income tax from $1000 to $2000 and then to $2500, and to ensure that seniors will be treated with respect when they try to access information about pensions and other government services. To this end, a Conservative government would appoint a National Seniors Council. Harper responds to questions from reporters after his announcement. The program then goes back to Van Dusen, who notes that Harper commented on Prime Minister Paul Martin's comments that the American government wasn't moving fast enough on climate change, and should have signed the Kyoto Agreement. Van Dusen adds that Canada's Ambassador to the United States, Frank McKenna, had just been summoned by the Bush administration to explain why the Prime Minister was criticizing them so harshly. The episode proceeds to footage of Martin, the Liberal Party Leader, re-announcing government promises of aid for the auto industry in Windsor. He also talks about the Liberals' promise to help build a second bridge between Windsor and Detroit. After speaking, he responds to reporters' questions about the announcement, his meeting with Bill Clinton on climate change issues, and an alleged leak from the Finance Minister's office. The program goes briefly back to Van Dusen, and then to Bloc Quebecois Leader Gilles Duceppe responding to reporters in Chicoutimi, Que. When questioned about the other parties' activities, he explains that the Bloc focuses on its own strategies, and does not worry too much about what everyone else is doing. He also criticizes Paul Martin for voicing Canada's displeasure with the United States on the softwood lumber trade issue, but not following it up with any action. He says the Bloc will continue fighting for the people affected by this issue, and will continue insisting that the next Prime Minister actually do something about it. <59mn>
