Much of the material pre-dates Allan J. MacEachen's tenure as a Liberal Senator. The records here provide evidence of his abiding interest in his Scottish heritage, in all things related to Gaelic culture, the language, the music and the arts and his genealogical connections to family in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia and Scotland. There is much material about his brother, John MacEachen, an English professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University, who died accidentally in 1975, and there is personal correspondence from MacEachen's last few years in the Senate. Also included in this sub-series are a sizable collection of cards, Christmas, birthday, condolences for family members and cards memorializing MacEachen's retirement from the Senate. Finally, there are files here documenting MacEachen's various homes in Ottawa and Antigonish and, most particularly, his summer cottage on Lake Ainsley, in Nova Scotia.

Arrangement note:

This sub-series was arranged by the archivist, selecting out files from the larger mass of material transferred to Library and Archives Canada after MacEachen retired as a Senator in 1996. The records here were differentiated from the rest of the material and there is very little overlap between these records and files in other sub-series. The files in the sub-series are organized chronologically.
