This series consists of records relating to Marcel Prud'homme's inter-parliamentary activities involving Parliamentary Associations, Inter-parliamentary Groups, Friendship Groups and the international forums in which they are involved. The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), a multilateral Parliamentary Association, has its own series, though some material here relates to it.
During his parliamentary career, Marcel Prud'homme created twenty-two inter-parliamentary groups. Most prominently represented in this series are the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), the Association internationale des parlementaires de langue française, the Canada-Arab World Parliamentary Association, and the Canada-Russia Parliamentary Group. Prud'homme was a member of the executive committee of the latter two groups.
Parliamentary associations represented in this series include the following bilateral associations: the Canada-China Legislative Association, the Canada-France Inter-Parliamentary Association, the Canada-Japan Inter-Parliamentary Group, the Canada-United States Inter-Parliamentary Group, and the Canada-United Kingdom Inter-Parliamentary Association.
Multilateral associations represented include the Canada-Europe Parliamentary Association, the Canadian NATO Parliamentary Association, the Canadian Branch of the Assemblée parlementaire de la Francophonie, the Canadian Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, and the Canadian Section of ParlAmericas (previously known as the Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the Americas - FIPA). The Canadian Group of the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Canadian Delegation to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Parliamentary Association are also multilateral associations and can be found in the sub-series Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Inter-parliamentary Groups represented in this series include the Canada-Germany Inter-parliamentary Group. Numerous Friendship Groups are also represented in this series.
There are also a few files from the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Organization (AIPO, renamed ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Association in 2007), documenting a Senate delegation to AIPO in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in September 1993.
Material in this series consists of conference and forum documents, international travel and visits documentation, agendas, reports and itineraries. The end of the series includes a group of files relating generally to the oversight and organization of Parliamentary Associations and Groups, including reports authored by Prud'homme.
