Although there are some essays, the documents in this series are mostly fictional works by Marguerite Andersen at various stages of writing. The series includes almost as many unpublished as published works. Among other items, it includes series of poems, several short story manuscripts, notes from trips to Germany, notes for the novel La Soupe, different drafts of plays such as Vous ne vivrez plus and Christiane: Stations in a Painter's Life, documents relating to the translation of L'Autrement pareille, various manuscripts of De mémoire de femme, a story project, a film project, a draft for a musical, and several combinations of unpublished material, including dream stories, drafts of short stories and plays, essays, and scattered notes.
The series includes a number of works of fiction in English, including several short stories and "Young Servant Girl's Silent Lament." There are also some unpublished texts written in German.
The series originally included copies of literary journals in which articles or literary texts by Marguerite Andersen were featured. These journals have been transferred to Library and Archives Canada's print collection.
