Polar Knowledge Canada : Polar Knowledge Canada (POLAR) is a departmental corporation of the Canadian federal government. POLAR was established via the Canadian High Arctic Research Station Act (S.C.2014, c.39, s.145) which came into force 1 June 2015 (SI/2015-36). The Act consolidated, in one organization, the activities of the former Canadian Polar Commission with the former pan-northern Science and Technology Program of Indigenous and Northern Affairs (INAC).

POLAR is responsible for advancing Canada's knowledge of the Arctic and strengthening Canadian leadership in circumpolar science and technology and on Arctic issues.

POLAR is overseen by a Board of Directors appointed by Governor in Council; the Board's oversight function includes the responsibility for approving annual plans and the science and technology plan. The President (and chief executive officer) of POLAR is responsible for everyday management and direction of POLAR. In 2019, POLAR had two main programs and organizational areas: Science & Technology, and Knowledge Management and Engagement.

POLAR operates out of the Canadian High Arctic Research Station located in Cambridge Bay (Iqaluktuuttiaq), Nunavut. POLAR also has an office in the National Capital Region. In 2019, POLAR was an organization with approximately 60 staff.

Canadian High Arctic Research Station : The name "Canadian High Arctic Research Station" (CHARS) refers to two separate but related entities: the departmental corporation, and the Arctic research station that is operated by the departmental corporation.

The Canadian High Arctic Research Station is the Legal Title of the Canadian federal government departmental corporation that is better known by its Applied Title "Polar Knowledge Canada" (POLAR).

CHARS is also the research station located in Cambridge Bay (Iqaluktuuttiaq), Nunavut, that is operated by POLAR. The CHARS campus in Nunavut officially opened in August 2019.
