Original works commissioned by CBC for Canadian orchestra, chamber groups, vocal ensembles, music festivals, and CBC programming, dates from the 1940s through the 2000s. The collection, created to promote and nurture Canadian arts and culture, performers, and musicians, includes works by notable Canadian composers Violet Archer, Norma Beecroft, Walter Buczunski, Srul Irving Glick, Jacques Hetu, R. Murray Schafer, and contemporary artists such as Owen Pallett and k-os. Performed primarily by the Vancouver based in-house CBC Radio Orchestra, original scores were commissioned by the CBC up until the orchestra's dissolution in 2008.
