The Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service provides neutral, third-party assistance to labour and management to resolve disputes that arise during collective agreement negotiations or during the term of an agreement. It also attempts to improve labour relations in Canada through preventive mediation techniques and, on occasion, through the appointment of Industrial Inquiry Commissions and Task Forces.
