This accession consists of two documents that were discovered in the book "Canadians in Khaki: South Africa, 1899-1900" (Amicus # 5297726) in the National Library collection.

The obverse of the first document is a handwritten list entitled "Royal Grenadiers: names of man who volunteered and were accepted for service with the Canadian Contingent in the Transvaal, Toronto: October 1899." This lists the names and addresses of twenty-four men. The reverse of the document is a handwritten list entitled "Royal Grenadiers: list of men on Command, Halifax." Both lists appears to have been created at the same time, ca 1899.

The second document is a single type-written page showing the ports and dates of arrival for 13 Canadian units that served in the South African War. The units disembarked at either Cape Town or Durban, between November 1899 and June 1902.
