Accession consists of records created and/or maintained by the Telecommunications and Electronics Branch of Transport Canada.

The accession includes, but is not limited to, correspondence and records relating to the Canadian Radio Technical Planning Board, the convention for safety of life at sea, the Canadian National Committee of the International Electotechnical Commission, the committee on landline communications in the Northwest Territories, the North American Regional Broadcasting Engineering Conference, the Interdepartmental Radio Advisory Committee and the Interamerican Radio Office (OIR). The accession also includes correspondence and records related to the Trans-Pacific Cable Landing at Bamfield, British Columbia, as well as records related to space research, communication satellites and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) news releases.

File listings for OFRC accession 1974-204 note the following details about the contents of these twenty boxes. The general subject is OPERATIONS with files numbering from 4000 to 5075. Specific files listed in the OFRC list are reported as 4000-20 vol.3, 4020-33-3 vol.16-19, 4020-33-3 vol.43, 4020-33-3 vol.44, 5075-22 vol.4.

Note that a single out-of-place file related to radio operator licensing is also included, under file series 5804, that deals with policy in regards to the employment of women as radio operators.

Custodial history:

These files were originally created and maintained by the Department of Transport, but eventually transferred to the Department of Communications. It appears that the Dept. of Communications kept the files in Transport folders, but crossed out the original filing numbers and renumbered them under the Communications filing system. The collection was likely transferred from Industry Canada, but has since been arranged in the fonds for the Department of Transport.
