Accession consists of records created and/or maintained by Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and its predecessor the Medical Research Council of Canada (MRC).

This accession includes, but is not limited to, agendas, procedures, minutes, correspondence, and briefing material created and maintained to support CIHR Council and Executive Committee meetings, as well as various standing committees (e.g., the Standing Committee on Science and Research) and sub-committees (e.g., institute creation, ethics, and business development).

The accession also includes files supporting the activities of various grant and award committees. Each of the grant and award committees of the MRC and CIHR represented a different research specialty, and was charged with considering applications for funding, assessing them using peer review evaluations, and dividing available funding among approved grantees. Subjects include but are not limited to: biomedical engineering; cancer; clinical trials; genetics; neuroscience; pathology and morphology; and pharmaceutical sciences.

The accession also includes documentation on the development and review of "Network Centres of Excellence (NCE)" and MRC group research grants, as well as the Canadian Medical Discoveries Fund (CMDF).
