John was born in 1913 near Vegreville. His father's activities in the Ukrainian Social Democratic Party politicized him by age 6. Special dispensation got him into the Young Communist League (YCL) at 13. John chose political school over university. The Party co-opted John from the Ukrainian organization. He became National Secretary of the Ukrainian Labor-Farmer Temple Association (ULFTA) Youth during the Left turn in 1931. John explains why he believes Western Ukraine was more radicalized than the East. John describes the evolution of the ULFTA from a cultural organization to one that towed the Party line. <104m>Language:EnglishNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
