General note:

This accession consists of one box of case files created by the Farm Debt Mediation Service of the department of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada. When these records were created, AAFC maintained one office at Ottawa Headquarters and five regional offices (Fredericton, Quebec City, Guelph, Regina and Edmonton.) From the late 1990s to ca. 2010, the FDMS was part of the Farm Income Protection Directorate.

The Farm Debt Mediation Service provides insolvent farmers and their creditors with meditation services pursuant to the Federal Farm Debt Mediation Act (FDMA) and Regulation to help them arrive at a mutually satisfactory arrangement.

Note that this box of records is a 5% random sampling, as recommended by RDA 2001/013, which deals with Farm Income Protection.
