Interview of D. Roy Cameron, former Canadian Forestry Service Dominion Forester. This interview was recorded at his home in Vancouver, British Columbia, by G.H.D. Bedell as part of a series of interviews with Canadian foresters for the Forest Management Institute's oral history of forestry in Canada. He speaks about such subjects as: his early life; education and career development; timber cruising; the Hudson Bay Railway; surveys at Lesser Slave Lake in 1911; impressions of men and policies in the early years of the Canadian Forestry Service; Provincial Forest Services; industry; the organization of the Canadian Forestry Service and local political pressures; the influence of the Forestry Conference of 1906 on Canadian Forestry Service policy; the effect of the First World War on forest policy; the establishment of the forest experiment stations; the transfer of resources to the provinces; the depression years and the National Forestry Program; the influence of the Second World War on the development of the Canadian Forestry Service; the Canadian Forestry Service and the Food and Agricultural Organization; the role of the Canadian Forestry Service; special assignments and several amusing incidents. <60mn>
