Television documentary series on the military campaigns of World War II. This program deals with the invasion of Russia by the Wehrmacht's massed armies, and the defensive military actions undertaken by the Soviet Armed Forces. The following topics and eventsare covered: Soviet mobilization, the scorched earth policy practiced by the people of Russia; new equipment for the Russian army; the Battle of Smolensk; Hitler's intervention in his general's plans; the partisan movement; Russian armament production and purchases; German problems with rain, mud, fuel and winter conditions; the defence of Moscow; the routing of the German army. The following noteworthy shows and scenes are shown: Soviet tanks and trucks running the gauntlet of German fire - one truck driver gives himself up when his truck is struck and bursts into flames; German troops acclaiming Hitler upon his visit to the Ukraine. Soviet prisoners filing by, avoiding a dead fellow Russian soldier lying across the road, and stretching their necks to try and recognize him; the Mayor of Moscow giving the signal for an air raid alert, over the telephone; Russians sleeping in a subway tunnel in Moscow; a speech being delivered to the Komsomol on the anniversary of the Russian revolution by Stalin; a Russian father embracing his three sons, all of whom are tank commanders; winter clothes collections in GErmany; the burial of Gen. Dovato by his fellow Kossack troops; victory celebrations and welcoming of Soviet troops in Moscow. <60mn>
