Collection search - Trip to Terrace and Kitimat

The city of Kitimat was planned and built by the Aluminum Company of Canada (Alcan) during the 1950s. Up until 1953, Kitimat had been the private undertaking of Alcan. Late in 1952, Alcan applied to the B.C. Legislature to have the 66 square miles of land at Kitimat incorporated as a district municipality. In the spring of 1953, the Kitimat Incorporation Act was passed.
