Recorded at Mrs. Edwards home in Ottawa, Ontario during the summer of 1980. Related to D. Kemp Edwards - lumbering firm in Ottawa. Born 1887, Madoc, Ontario. Grew up in a number of places in Ontario. Parents were English. Father a school teacer and later a dentist. He was principal of Vankleek Hill Normal School and mother was a teahcer. Mrs. Edwards was the second child of three. Maiden name was Marshall. Memories of teaching at Eagle River for $400 per year. Went to Normal School, Toronto at 21. Taught alongside her mother in a 2 room school in Rat Portage (Kenora). Other girls didn't want the job as they wanted to be in town. Taught mostly Swedish children who were good learners. Rat Portage was a gold boom town. Memories of grandparents inlcuding one who ruined her face with worry after being widowed at 41.
