Copy of a charter granted to Local 40, Englehart, Ontario, by the Canadian Brotherhood of Railroad Employees (CBRE).

Members included "Richard T. Price, past president; Tom S. Monkhouse, president; Arthur Pullen, vice president; Fred A. Errett, financial secretary; Thos. Mudds, treasurer; Miss Olive Ellis, recording secretary; Allan D. Price, warden; Ed. Vreeland, chaplain; William Free, inner guard; George Wright, outer guard; William Ward, messenger; Gordon Rogers, Sam Silver and all others enrolled in this Local Division."

This copy appears to have been used in an exhibition. Charter is accompanied by a caption explaining the charter.

General note:

The caption includes this text: "Founded in 1908, the Canadian Brotherhood of Railway Employees was a Canadian railway union with an industrial form of organization rather than the narrow craft unionism of the American railway brotherhoods. The CBRE was the main force behind the nationalist all Canadian Congress of Labour."
