Just over a century ago, Herschel was a frontier boom-town, labelled “The Sodom of the Arctic”. It was a place inhabited by transitory American whalers, Inuits, missionaries, and the police; it was a place of contact and conflict. The documentary is told through the eyes of a young Inuvialuit boy named Nuligak (aka Bob Cockney) who travelled to Herschel Island and came of age fascinated by the Americans who hunted for whale bone from their great ships. He was grateful for the economic sustenance Herschel offered, but also repelled by the excesses of so-called civilization. Through his life-story-told through his writings penned before his death in Edmonton's Camsell Hospital, and echoed by his grandchildren's return to the Island Nuligak once called home- WORLDS COLLIDE offers a unique view into Canada's past. <46mn>Language:English / Français / InuvialiktunNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
