The series consists of files which the ICAE organized into its own "archives" series. In archiving their records, they generally condensed several separate and distinct files into one file folder, usually following in order the sequential numbering of their filing system, or sometimes an alphabet code. The largest group of records is organized geographically following the numerical and alphabetical filing systems: Canada (000 range and A-code), United States (100-range and B-code), Latin America (200-range and C-code), Caribbean (300-range and D-code), Europe (400-range and E-code), Africa (500-range and F-code), Middle East (600-range and G-code), Asia (700-range and H-code), and South Pacific (800-849 range and I-code). The other archived files include records of administration and governance (001-080); international organizations (850-870); executive meetings and ICAE officers (872-885); national members (886); main funders (900-916); secretariat (917-918); and programs and projects (920-998).

There is naturally considerable overlap between the Archives series and the records that now form the other series in the fonds.
