The woman in this photograph possibly belongs to either the Tsimshian Nation or the Gitxsan Nation.
This photograph was probably taken during the production of the National Film Board of Canada's documentary "Peoples of the Skeena," which was filmed in 1947 and released in 1949.
A button blanket is a type of ceremonial clothing that is traditionally worn by the First Nations of the Northwest Coast.
The caption of this record has not yet been revised through Project Naming.

This photograph depicts a sacred object. In accordance with action number 23 of the LAC Indigenous Heritage Action Plan (April 2019): "LAC will prioritize the preferences of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Nation communities when handling and caring for sensitive material created by or about their respective communities".
