Documentary about the national election in Israel. It opens with actuality of Anat Hoffman’s family celebrating on Shabbat and part of Yitzak Rabin’s election campaign. Subjects discussed include: election campaign issues; Yitzak Rabin campaigning; tension between secular and religious parties, notably Peace Now versus the National Religious Party; malaise about the election campaign; Palestinian interest in the election campaign; the economy and unemployment; the cost of absorbing a large number of Russian immigrants; and American financial support for Israel. Interviewees include: social worker Anat Hoffman; pollster Hannoch Smith; a teenage member of a religious political party; Palestinian Mahdi Abdul Hahdi, who is the director of the Palestinian Centre for International Affairs; a shopkeeper and Likkud Party supporter; a man in the Gizmos bar in Jerusalem; Zev Golan of the Institute for Advanced Strategic and Political Studies in Jerusalem; and a woman in a supermarket who says she wants to be safe in her own country and to be able to let her children go free.
