Accession consists of records created and/or maintained by the Expositions Branch of Information Canada. The branch was responsible for operation of the former Canadian Government Exhibition Commission and the Canadian Government Photo Centre (Photothèque).

Administrative records include but not limited to organization, committees, cooperation with other federal departments, parliamentary affairs, and reporting. The committee records include the International Bureau of Exhibitions (IBE) and the Council of Information Directors.

Operational records cover a variety specific expositions, exhibits, and fairs. These include, but are not limited to World Fairs and Expos in 1972 (Beijing), 1974 (Spokane), 1975 (Okinawa), 1976 (Philadelphia), the UN Conference on Human Settlements (Vancouver), and a range of other special events.

There are a small number of files on the management of the National Film Board's still photography library, responsibility of which had been transferred to Information Canada in July 1971.
