Film about a gambling son who causes the death of his father. In the drawing room of their home, a young man introduces a friend, described as an "unlikely acquaintance", to his parents. The two men then leave together. The friend persuades the son to enter a casino with him. This he does very reluctantly, but once inside he is introduced to an attractive young lady and soon forgets his apprehension. In his first round at the gaming table he is very lucky and, elated, rushes into another room to show his new friends his winnings. They drink to his success. The son returns to the gaming table, but now he begins to lose, eventually losing everything. Returning to his parents' home, he shows his father a note from a Baron de Burckal, demanding a gambling debt of 500 Louis within 24 hours. The father, aghast, refuses to give his son the money. That night, the son breaks into his father's office and is stealing the money when the father enters and surprises him in the act. There is a brief scuffle in which the son escapes and the father collapses. Back at the casino, the son loses even this money, creates a scene, and is thrown out. Some time later, obviously destitute, the son returns to his parents' house. His mother is dismayed at his condition and takes him to his father, who is confined to bed. Upon seeing him the father has a fit of rage and dies. The mother and son are deeply grieved.
