General note:

Accession consists of records created and/or maintained by the Japanese Canadian Redress Secretariat (JCRS), which was originally within the Department of Secretary of State. The records contain administrative and operational files that were arranged by the JCRS according to subject headings that reflect processes and events that led to payment of money to eligible claimants under the JCRS. There were a total of 18,500 claimants.

Custodial history:

The records of the Japanese Canadian Redress Secretariat (JCRS) were created between 1942 and 1999. The JCRS originally reported to the Secretary of State, then the unit was transferred to the Department of Canadian Heritage within Citizenship and Multiculturalism, and finally, to Citizen and Immigration Canada (CIC). Consequently, these records were moved from Department of Canadian Heritage to Citizen and Immigration Canada in 2008, and finally transferred from CIC to LAC in 2010.
