Scope and content:This is a preliminary description, please consult the linked accessions. Sub-series consists of records created and/or maintained by RCMP divisions and detachments across Canada while performing their investigative duties. These records include investigation case files and occurrence files created by the Criminal Operations Branches and the Protective Operations in the operational divisions and detachments across Canada, as well as at Headquarters. The records were created under the PIB (Personal Information Bank) title of "Operations/LawEnforcement and Protective Services - Operational Case Records". They were maintained by these offices during their active periods, stored in federal records centres during their dormant periods and returned to the RCMP Archives Management Section for selection according to existing Records Disposition Authorities and shipment to the Library and Archives of Canada. Either prior to the receipt of these records at Library and Archives Canada, or pursuant to that receipt, individuals named in these files received a pardon for their offenses. Accordingly, under the terms of the Criminal Records Act, it has become necessary to segregate these records.
