This accession consists of records created and/or maintained by the Thomas Support Group. The records are arranged according to the DND/CF subject file classification system. The accession includes administrative records and correspondence dealing with the following topics: general; policy; travel / visits; minutes of meetings; duties / contracts; equipment; access to information; and the Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff.

The Thomas Support Group was established in 1996 to assist Mr. Lowell Thomas, a retired RCMP commissioner, in his task of conducting an inquiry into the perceived delay of the Military to fully and properly investigate the allegations of misconduct and poor performance of members of the Canadian Forces at the Bakovici Hospital in Bosnia-Herzegovina during a deployment there in 1993/1994. Thomas was specifically tasked with finding the cause for the long delay in investigating the Bakovici allegations, while also determining whether the delay was systematic or attributable to individuals, determining whether DND headquarters was ever misinformed, and if so, by whom, and determining whether or not there were any attempts to cover up the allegations.
