The collection consists of the Kitchen Accord (two pages), originally drafted in the kitchen of the National Conference Centre in Ottawa on 4 November 1981 by the Honourable Jean Chrétien, Roy Romanow and Roy McMurtry, respectively federal Minister of Justice, Attorney General of Saskatchewan and of Ontario, on the second last day of a federal-provincial First Ministers conference on the Constitution. The hand writing in the document is that of Roy Romanow. While additional changes were still negotiated to the original accord, it formed one of the most important foundations of the agreement to "patriate" Canada's Constitution reached by the federal government and the provinces, with the exception of Québec, on the last day of the conference. Based on this agreement, the Canada Act 1982 was later approved by the government of the UK. The Canada Act contained the Constitution Act 1982, which in turn, entrenched the Canadian charter of Rights and Freedoms.

In addition to the Kitchen Accord, there are two copies of a certificate of authentication which were created to commemorate the retirement of The Honorable Roy McMurtry from the Ontario Court of Appeal on 11 April 2007, "in recognition of his contributions to nation-building".
