Question and answer (town hall) session with Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, Deputy Prime Minister Herb Gray, Finance Minister Paul Martin, Minister of Industry, Science and Technology John Manley, and another unnamed Cabinet Minister during an accountability session held during the Liberal Party of Canada Convention, in Ottawa. Included subjects are a tribute to the Liberal Cabinet for its first ten months of work, concerns regarding the upcoming provincial election in Quebec, with Chrétien’s affirmation that the Prime Minister can’t intervene in a provincial election, the necessity to make budget cuts in government expenditures, some concerns about agriculture and its relations to the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), the Liberal promise of replacing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) by another tax harmonized with the provinces, the fisheries crisis both in the Pacific and in the Atlantic, the national debt, maintaining the Canadian health care system, job creation as the Liberal Party’s first priority, and the party’s success, since being elected, in creating jobs. <60mn>
