The documents of this sub-sub-series are chiefly concerned with the management of exempt political staff in Prime Minister Chretien's Office and the Cabinet, and of the political staff of ministers and secretaries of state during the three terms between 1993 and 2003.

The following specific themes are addressed: hiring of exempt political staff; management of exempt political staff; powers of PMO exempt political staff; appointments; applications for employment in the Prime Minister's Office; applications for employment in a Minister's office; meeting requests with Prime Minister Chrétien; meeting requests with Prime Minister Chrétien's Chief of Staff; bills; diplomatic procedures; North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA); statistics; Y2K; Senate of Canada; Cabinet budget; referendum; conference planning; subcontractors; conflicts of interest; and salaries. Lastly, we should point out that certain detailed memos by ministers and secretaries of state concern planned proposals to the Office of Prime Minister Chrétien, and offer a fresh perspective on them before they are (or are not) officially submitted.

This sub-sub-series consists mainly of CVs, and of HR and performance appraisal forms. To a lesser degree, it also contains news releases, memos, agendas, organizational charts, lists, press clippings, correspondence and handwritten notes.
