This sub-sub-series concerns the Quebec referendums of 1980 and 1995, as well as the national referendum of 1992. It consists mainly of reference material, such as reports and studies. To a lesser degree it consists of surveys, memos, news releases, notices, items of correspondence, promotional material and working papers, particularly in the form of talking points, lists, speaking notes, and various handwritten notes.

These documents concern the strategies considered by the Office of Prime Minister Chrétien during the 1992 and 1995 referendums, especially with regard to communication. Among other things, they consist of various reports and the findings of formal investigations and surveys used to predict voting results, develop arguments and establish various scenarios. The sparse correspondence exchanges also serve to provide a written record of the positions, grievances and strategies of the major political players in these debates (i.e. Jean Chrétien, Robert Bourassa, Jacques Parizeau, Lucien Bouchard, etc.).
