Interview with Bruce Harris, the regional director for Covenant House Latin America (Casa Alianza), an agency that works to defend the rights of homeless children and teenagers on the streets of Central America. Subjects discussed include: the high murder rate of children and young adults in Honduras; historical reasons behind the violence; environmental, social and economic repercussions of Hurricane Mitch; the dramatic increase of street kids following Hurricane Mitch; extreme cases of violence against Honduran children committed by the police; failure to bring the police to justice; the Ministry of Public Securities' argument that the murders are being committed by gang members against gang members; resistance against the prosecution of police; justification for the murders including the idea of "social cleansing", a term used to describe the removal, by means of murder, of people deemed undesirable to society; the experiences of Maria Luisa Borjas, a former police officer who was fired following her investigation into the murders; and the experience of street kids as told by Harris. The interview with Harris moves to Casa Alianza’s crisis centre in Tegucigalpa where Carty speaks to several street kids, and continues to Seventh Street (Calle siete) where street kids are observed and discussed by Harris and Carty. <60mn>
