DA VINCI'S CITY HALL is a multi-genre procedural prime-time series that has evolved from the hit drama DA VINCI'S INQUEST. The series, inspired by the work of former Vancouver mayor Larry Campbell, opens a new chapter in the life of forthright and strong-minded Dominic Da Vinci. Well known as a man who advocates changes, and challenges the status quo, Da Vinci has been elected Mayor of the City of Vancouver in a convincing win. His venture into city politics, however, might upset those who have held Vancouver in its grasp for the last one hundred years. The series expands its focus from the legal, medical and police procedural to include politics and scenes behind the closed doors where the deals that shape the City of Vancouver are made and broken, and where various interest groups manoeuvre their way to achieve their positions of power and influence. In this episode, Da Vinci goes to Hastings Park where he meets two power players in the city - track owner Tom Venice and sugar heiress, Billie Simms. Both are convinced that slot machines must be approved for the track. In an Eastside alley, Jan Ferris leads three other female constables in a campaign to bust grow-ops. Detectives Carter and Lineham investigate a gay-bashing in the Stanley Park, while Zack has gained the trust of homeless activist Friedland who uncovers his plan to move his squatters to Queen Elizabeth Park. Da Vinci presses Sam and Rita to expel the councillor who leaked information about the city ad contracts to Lloyd Manning. Suspicion falls on Sandra Ferlinger whose husband was involved in "unethical" business dealins with Manning. Ferlinger offers her resignation, but the Mayor prefers to enlist her support in the key slot machine vote. <44mn 50s>
