This collection consists of a series of photographs on the themes of struggle and inequality and documenting more specifically The Summit of the Americas, Quebec City, 2001; Memorial for murdered Native Women on the Lower East Side, Vancouver, 2001; Homelessness in Vancouver and protest over Safe Injection Sites (1999-2002); protests and rallies against the War in Iraq (2000-2003) and the Noam Choamsky Peace Rally in Vancouver, 2004.

Briere, Elaine, 1946- : Elaine Briere is a documentary photographer living in Vancouver, British Columbia. Briere completed her undergraduate degree at the University of British Columbia in English and Arts in 1968. In 2008 she completed her Master's degree in Liberal Studies at Simon Fraser University. Briere has been photographing in Canada and internationally since the 1970s and has documented social justice issues like Safe Injection Sites, homelessness and democratic protest. Internationally, she was the last photographer to visit East Timor before the Indonesian invasion in 1975 and she has produced a book of her work entitled Testimony: Photographs of East Timor. Briere has exhibited her work in Vancouver and published in international magazines and newspapers. She is also a filmmaker. Her documentary Bitter Paradise: The sell-out of East Timor, won Best Political documentary at Toronto's Hot Docs Festival in 1997.
