This sub-sub-series contains correspondence addressed to the Prime Minister of Canada and forwarded through the Privy Council Office, which tracks Canada's diplomatic relations and its involvement on the world scene in various spheres of human activity (i.e. relations, problems or agreements between the federal and provincial governments; relations between the federal authorities and certain minorities such as aboriginal peoples, etc.; and relations between the Prime Minister and the business, financial or industrial communities).
This correspondence thus covers a wide range of topics: federal-provincial politics; the Chrétien government (support and criticism); the state of Canada's economy and finances, i.e. the budget, the deficit and employment; industry and commerce; international trade; transportation; national defence; justice; social policy, i.e. poverty, family allowance, seniors, etc.; immigration; health and well-being; arts and culture; aboriginal affairs; the environment; multiculturalism; the status of women; official languages and bilingualism; science and technology, etc.
This sub-sub-series also contains a great deal of diplomatic correspondence with various heads of state. Whether congratulations for an election, official visit invitations, thank you letters following official functions, or expressions of sympathy following tragic events, the full range of diplomatic relations seems to be covered.
Lastly, the sub-sub-series contains a considerable number of letters from: the heads of various Canadian enterprises and financial institutions; members of various lobbies, associations and non-governmental organizations (i.e. humanitarian organizations, women's groups, ethnic minority groups and associations, aboriginal associations and band councils, unions, farm organizations, etc.); the Governor General of Canada; Senators; secretaries of state; federal Ministers; provincial Premiers and Cabinet Ministers; members of the House of Commons and various provincial legislative assemblies; the Solicitor General of Canada; mayors and city administrators; representatives of federal and provincial political parties; ministers and members of various religious communities; Canadian university chancellors and professors; lawyers and judges; foreign heads of state; and ambassadors, embassy delegates and consuls from various countries.
