Julian Samuel, Maki Nagisa, Volodymyr SerdyukCountry of production:cnDescription:After leaving their homeland, two young Ukrainians, Jaroslaw and Katya, settle in East Vancouver. Katya has difficult time adapting and finds her life in the new country very confusing. She is haunted by her memories and fixated on her mother's death that occurred during the harsh Soviet days. Katya finds comfort in a much older, married man, an intellectual who calls himself an old socialist. Her brother, Jaroslaw, nevertheless, is working hard to assimilate. But, it is not all champagne and caviar for him. He loses his job and finds himself under overwhelming financial pressures, not being able to afford a decent life or pay rent to his condescending Polish-Canadian landlord. Jaroslaw comes up with a plan to sell a family heirloom, a precious item that their grandmother acquired during the Great Famine of 1932. This act, however, sets into motion devastating consequences. <87mn 16s>Language:English / Polish / Ukrainian with English subtitlesNotes:Genre:DRAMADetailed holdings information: -
