This documentary tells the story of legendary Canadian ballet star, Rex Harrington, following him through his final season with the National Ballet of Canada and addressing the emotional trauma of Rex's retirement from his art. Rex struggles to accept his career's end, calling it "a small death" and a situation where "you have to say goodbye to an aspect of yourself". Rex's existential crisis is intermixed with the artist's deep struggle with personal demons which he attributes to a childhood scarred by his parents' bitter separation and his mother's (Sonja Harrington) descent into the abyss of schizophrenia. At this point in his turbulent life, Rex decides to go off in search of his estranged mother, the person who has dominated his thoughts for 17 years. The film crew follows him to London, England, to capture Rex's long-awaited and touching reunion with Sonja. But, there is more good things for Rex. His life takes a delightful turn when a distant admirer starts expressing a romantic interest in him. The documentary combines the expository mode, featuring voice-over narration by Cedric Smith, and the interactive mode, featuring interviews with some of Rex's accomplished partners - Veronica Tennant, Greta Hodgkinson and Karen Kain. <42mn 50s>
