Born into a Puritan family, she was captured at a young age during an aboriginal raid on her home town. She was assimilated into native culture until a French bishop arrived from Quebec City. As a political prisoner, Esther lived with the bishop's family and became immersed in French Catholic culture. After the peace of 1714 Esther made the decision to become a nun to avoid being sent back to her Puritan parents. She would go on to become the only English-born mother superior of the Urseline convent. <48mn>Language:EnglishNotes:Detailed holdings information: -
