The series consists of documents relating to Gordon Robertson's appointment as President of the Institute for Research on Public Policy in 1980, his time as Chancellor of Carleton University from 1980-1990 (mostly photos spanning his decade in that office, the establishment of the Gordon Robertson Inuit Scholarship, and the dedication of Robertson Hall), his involvement in various organizations (many concerned with constitutional issues) and community groups. One small group (with Gordon Fairweather, Mitchell Sharp, and Hamilton Southam) worked on behalf of the National Arts Centre Orchestra during their strike in 1989. Also included are transcripts from several days of the Royal Commission on Aboriginal People (covering Gordon Robertson's submission to the commission), files with background and research material on Northern Affairs, Constitutional issues (particularly the Quebec Referendum, Charlottetown and Meech Lake Accords), and Senate Reform. The series includes research files on the Public Service, and the Cabinet, as well as, a series of professional correspondence files dating from 1985-2002.

The series also includes a photograph album from the celebration of Mr. Robertson's 10 years as Chancellor of Carleton University in 1990.
